Our Journey to the Probiota Prebiotic Pioneers Award
Our mission began with a simple yet innovative idea: to upcycle Coastal Chardonnay grapes from the white winemaking process by making use of the nutritionally dense (but usually discarded) marc (also called pomace). Marc is the skins, seeds and stems left over from the winemaking process itself (Coastal Chardonnay marc is alcohol free due to the marc never coming into contact with the wine). Through extensive research and dedication, we discovered the incredible potential of Coastal Chardonnay Grape Marc. This variety, validated by the USDA, has been identified as the healthiest among both red and white grapes, rich in diverse oligosaccharides and polyphenols.
The pivotal research conducted at UC Davis revealed that these oligosaccharides and polyphenols selectively nourish some of the most beneficial microbes in the gut. This finding was a game-changer, setting the stage for WellVine™'s future.
Clinical and Market Success
Our food scientists and collaborations with leading chefs have confirmed the versatility of our products, resulting in dozens of delicious food applications. The market has also confirmed the value of our approach, with product launches receiving five-star consumer reviews for their great taste, nutritional benefits, and the story of 100% upcycled, minimally processed ingredients.
From Vine to Bar: A Revolution in Taste and Health
Our journey took a delicious turn with the launch of our consumer chocolate brand, Vine to Bar™. This product, made from 100% upcycled Coastal Chardonnay grapes, WellVine™, not only offers great taste but also boasts lower sugar and higher polyphenolic levels than leading dark chocolate brands. Our commitment to health and sustainability and taste is evident in every bite.
Our team identified that WellVine™ had a unique property of bitter note masking, which benefits of our chocolate, and resulted in an issued patent. This was a testament to the unique quality and innovation behind our products.
